The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced that starting Friday, July 8, chemical treatment applications will begin, to help control invasive weeds in the pond. The treatment will be applied three times throughout the summer, and poses no public health risk, nor harm to fish or other aquatic life.

The treatment will target nuisance plants such as white and yellow waterlily and variable water milfoil. The public should avoid fishing and boating on the ponds on treatment days. Signs will be posted around the pond regarding temporary water-use restrictions during these times.

Residents can follow DEM on Twitter(@RhodeIslandDEM), or Facebook at DEM for timely updates.
